Hello Kitty Crochet Newborn Shoes

Hello, hello, hello!

Today I was working on a project like a nut! Ha ha! My husband and children were just looking at me all weird but hey I accomplished was I set my mind on doing!

My sister sent me a picture of a pair of crochet Hello Kitty Shoes that a mutual friend of ours wanted me to make her 3 month old baby girl. I made her a newborn size because she is fairly small and this size would fit her perfectly. This image below is the picture that our friend sent her.

For the patterns you will need:
  • 2.50 MM Crochet Hook - For the Hello Kitty Applique and Bows
  • 5.00 MM Crochet Hook - For the Booties
  • Hobby Lobby's I Love this Yarn in Hot Rose (Pink) and White
  • Peaches and Cream Solids - 1 Skein in Yellow and 1 Skein in Black
  • 2 Pearl Buttons or 2 Buttons of choice.
  • Scissors and a yarn needle for weaving.
  • Optional: Hot Glue Gun
Of course, I couldn't find this pattern as much as I looked so I created one of my own like any other crocheter! lol ;)

I just love that pattern....it's so versatile! I adjusted it a little bit seeing as to the shoe needed a strap and I will be sharing it with you below. So the pattern that I used was the booties pattern I used before; here is the link.

Complete the above pattern and stop at Row 8 and fasten off.

Left Shoe:

  • Row 9: Count 5 sts to the right counting from the fastened off point, join the pink yarn and ch 15, make a SC into the first ch from hook, make a SC into the 2nd ch from hook, and into each of the next 23 sts.
  • Row 10: Ch 1, SC into the next 20 sts, ch 1, sc into the next st, ch 1, and sc into the last st.
  • Row 11: Ch 1, SC into the next 24 sts, fasten off and weave in the ends.

Right Shoe:

  • Row 9: Add the pink yarn on the left side of the shoe by counting 5 to the left from where the fastening off from Row 8 ended. Ch 15, turn, and on the opposite side of the chains, SC into the first ch from hook, and into the next 23 sts.
  • Row 10: Row 10: Ch 1, SC into the next 20 sts, ch 1, sc into the next st, ch 1, and sc into the last st.
  • Row 11: Ch 1, SC into the next 24 sts, fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Pattern for the Hello Kitty Applique - Make 2:

  • Row 1: Using the 2.50 MM hook and the white yarn chain 9, make 3 SC into the second chain from hook, make 1 SC into the next 6 sts, make 3 SC into the last st. Now we will work around on the other side of the work, make 1 SC into each of the next 6 sts, sl st to first SC made to join.
  • Row 2:  Ch 1, make 2 HDC into the same st as join, 1 HDC into the next st, 2 HDC into the following st, make 1 DC into each of the next 6 sts, make 2 HDC into the next st, make 1 HDC into the following st, make 2 HDC into the next st, make 1 DC into each of the next 6 sts, sl st to first HDC to join.
  • Row 3: Ch 1, SC into the same st as join and into the next 3 sts, make 1 HDC, 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC, and 1 HDC into the next st, loosely but not too loosely make a sl st into each of the next 6 sts. Make 1 HDC, 1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC, and 1 HDC into the next st, make 1 SC into each of the next 4 sts, make 2 SC into the next st, make 1 SC into each of the next 4 sts, make 2 SC into the last st, sl st to first SC to join, fasten off.

Pattern for the Bow - Make 2:

  • Left side of bow: Using the 2.50 MM hook and the pink yarn chain 3, make 2 DC into the third chain from hook, sl st into the same st, do not fasten off, and proceed to make the right side of bow.
  • Right side of bow: Chain 3, make 2 DC into the third chain from hook, sl st into the third chain from hook, fasten off leaving a 6" tail.
  • Completing the bow: Wrap the tail around the center of the bow tightly 6 times, weave in the tail. Now using the hot glue gun or sewing method, affix the bow onto the side of the ear.
Once you have completed these items, you can go ahead and sew on the eyes & whiskers with the black yarn as well as the nose with the yellow yarn. Affix the bows on the left and right side of the corresponding applique. Once you have completed this, you are now ready to glue or sew on your applique to the shoe.

There are several steps to making these shoes however you will be very happy and satisfied with the finished product! This is the end result for me.....hope this helps in making some Newborn Hello Kitty Crochet Shoes!

Toddler Shoes Update 03/05/2015: This is for a toddler shoe Size 4 (4'-5' heel)
Go to this link and it will bring you to MNE Crafts....she has a post on toddler crochet shoes that is absolutely great! Better that what I can come up with in 10 minutes ;)

Step 1: Complete the shoe portion and Row 1 of the cuff section, join, ch 1, SC into each st around. (24 SC), fasten off and weave in ends.

Side note: In the post she states to use a Size G hook if you have a loose tension (which I do and which I did). If you have a tighter tension, use a H or I hook. If this size is to large, try using a 3.50mm hook or reducing the amount of stitches you are starting off with. I will be working on a post to have from newborn to all size toddlers.

Step 2: Make one more.
Step 3: Make two Hello Kitty Appliques and two bows.
Step 4: Affix bow onto the applique.
Step 5: Affix applique onto the shoes and enjoy!
